San Antonio, TX (August 10th 2023) – AthleteTalk, LLC and the Sport Social Work Journal are pleased to announce a first of its kind partnership. The partnership will involve the Sport Social Work Journal providing AthleteTalk and its users with “conversational content” from the latest research on athlete mental health and evidence-based practices designed to enhance athlete well-being.
The vision of the Sport Social Work Journal is to promote individual and community well-being through sports by providing scholarly information on the intersection of sports and social work practice, theory, and research. AthleteTalk is a mental health and wellness app, specifically designed for athletes, that currently serves over 4,000 college athletes through partnerships with 19 NCAA athletic departments.
“AthleteTalk is truly excited to partner with the Sport Social Work Journal to enhance the mental health literacy of athletes and coaches on our platform. Social workers are increasingly providing mental services to athletes in ways that are unique to traditional sports wellness efforts and our partnership is one way to transport their findings and innovations from peer-reviewed journals onto our platform and into the hands of athletes. We know that if we increase mental health literacy, then we increase the likelihood athletes will seek help when they need it.” – Emmett L. Gill, Jr. Ph.D., MSW, LCSW
“The Sport Social Work Journal believes our ability to provide open-access research improves the likelihood individuals in the field of athletics can learn about innovative ideas for improving the health and wellness of collegiate athletes. Our journal publishes on a variety of topics from leaders in sport social work field. Working with Athlete Talk, LLC provides us a direct way to educate all those partnering with the app. We need more of these collaborations so knowledge is accessible on platforms used by athletes.” – Matt Moore, Ph.D., MSW
